Rich MacDonald began his career working for Mr. Hinman in 1989 and is the Chief Operating Officer of The Hinman Company, a commercial real estate firm specializing in office and retail investment, development, management, and leasing. He is involved in all aspects of the company’s operations and strategic planning. His core areas of focus are operations, development, acquisitions, and leasing.
Rich is actively involved with the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and is one of a few practitioners in the State of Michigan to achieve ICSC’s CLS (Certified Leasing Specialist) designation. His retail experience includes development, acquisitions, leasing & management of freestanding, strip, and power retail centers, and he has been involved with numerous transactions involving national retailers such as Kohl’s, Lowe’s, Walgreens, Michael’s, and Bed Bath & Beyond.
Rich has been involved in numerous single and multiple tenant office developments, re-developments, acquisitions, purchase – lease backs, and traditional leasing transactions ranging in size from 30,000 to 320,000 square feet. His office segment relationships and experiences include, but are not limited to, Merrill Lynch, Bank of America, Stryker, Kellogg’s, Plante & Moran, Clear Channel Communications, Ford, Key Bank, Baker & Daniels, Valassis Communications Inc, State of Michigan, General Services Administration, and the Principal Group.
Rich holds the Brokerage License for the company. He is an active member of the Building Owners & Managers Association (BOMA) and an active Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) candidate. Additionally, he is actively involved in the Commercial Alliance of Realtors (CAR), Commercial Board of Realtors (CBOR), and Greater Kalamazoo Association of Realtors (GKAR).
Presently, he serves on the Executive Board as a Director of the Greater Kalamazoo United Way, and as a Director of the City of Portage Downtown Development Authority.
Rich was recently selected by the Grand Rapids Business Journal as one of the region’s Top 40 Business Leaders.
Rich attended the University of Detroit on a baseball athletic scholarship and graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in Accounting & Finance. Rich and his family reside in Portage, Michigan. In his free time, he enjoys waterfowl hunting, salt-water fishing, and golfing.
